Lead Guitar - Glenn

Lead Guitar - Glenn

Glenn’s musical background started at the age of 7 years old when he began playing piano. At the age of 12, he took up cello and excelled at that playing in both his high school band and the Milwaukee All City Orchestra. After high school, Glenn became involved in competitive sports (those that involved beer anyways), and put his musical career on hold. As time passed, Glenn’s interest in music remained strong, attending many venues with live bands and listening to great local classic rock bands. After many years of attending shows and being fascinated by the local Milwaukee band “Rhythm Method” his passion to be a guitarist and play that genre of music became overwhelming. At the young age of 51, Glenn took up guitar, and started a new journey in life. Through several small band projects, he met other aspiring musicians, and formed “Vinyl Road” with Chad and Dan in August of 2011. Glenn’s musical influences focus on the groups rather than individual artists. Groups such as: Styx, REO Speedwagon, Deep Purple, Foreigner, The Cars, Rainbow. The list could go on and on. Glenn’s passion as part of Vinyl Road is to play great classic rock music from the past to the present with great rock that all enjoy (including of course Glenn!).

Bass & Vocals - Dan

Bass & Vocals - Dan

Dan’s love for music goes back to when he was 6 driving around with his older brother Bill, jamming to Kiss, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper and The Stones. Around the age of 13 he started working with the band Moonstruck as a drum tech and behind the sound board but knew it was not the roll he wanted. Picking up the bass in 1980, Dan was on his way… soon playing in rock bands N.I.X. and then Mirrors. Later in the 80’s he played around the Milwaukee area in the heavy metal band Aggressor, which evolved into the mostly ‘originals’ thrash metal band IMPACT. Dan’s bass playing can be heard on IMPACT’s “Take the Pain” CD. Around 1990, Dan put the bass down for family life, but his love for music kept him jamming with friends and working around the area for 20 years for the DJ Service “Sincerely Yours”. Dan has also enjoyed sitting behind the drum kit over the years. He has jammed with an assortment of talented musicians including the “Rock-N-Roll Wilderness Blues Band” of Northern Wisconsin and spent 2 years as Vinyl Road’s drummer. Now Dan is back where he belongs – playing the ‘heavy 4-string’ on great classic rock tunes……. traveling down the Vinyl Road.

Drums - Dave

Drums - Dave

Dave Shadlen aka: Dave DeDrummer
I began drumming when I was 11 years old. It was 1972, I was in 6th grade and made the decision that I was no longer interested in playing the violin. I considered using my knowledge of reading rhythm to play percussion instruments, but in my mind I was already sitting at the drum set and rocking out.
From that day forward, most days were spent drumming first with tunes of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Chicago. Deep Purple’s Ian Paice and Ginger Baker from Cream were also strong influences of mine. Ultimately it was the drummers of the early progressive rock bands: Bill Bruford of Yes and Carl Palmer of Emerson, Lake and Palmer that really drew me in with their musical talent that seemed to transcend the basic rock drummers of the day.
And then Led Zeppelin happened. When I heard the power and solid time keeping of John Bonham, I instantly knew how I wanted to sound if I ever got the opportunity to drum with a band. I got my first drum set in 1974 and started a garage band with some friends not long after that. I’m comfortable with a guitar in my hands but my happy place was, and still is, at the drums. My favorite memories of high school are either on the soccer field or drumming with my band called Mirage; covering Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and other music of the 70’s. Playing with a band ended when high school ended but I never stopped playing on my own.
Fast forward to 2016. A friend who writes music was looking for a new drummer for his band so I auditioned and got the gig. We played gigs doing original music and some covers and after winning a battle of the bands, got to play on the Harley Davidson stage at Summerfest. I was drumming again; I was back where I belonged.
In 2018 I retired after a wonderful 32-year career teaching math and coaching the boys and girls soccer teams at Hamilton High School in Milwaukee. Retiring with a pension gave me the freedom to explore what I had previously never dared to dream out loud; pursuing a career as a professional drummer.
In 2021 I began my new career – I am living that dream; drumming for Vinyl Road; the only road driven to rock!
